Maëlle Guennec

Maëlle Guennec is a registered osteopath at AB Osteopathy, working from the New Town Edinburgh clinic.

She has a particular interest in women's health, pelvic health, pregnancy and postnatal care, as well as chronic pain, TMJ issues and paediatric osteopathy.

Her approach combines hands-on treatment with education, movement and practical self-management tools, helping patients feel heard, informed and actively involved in their recovery.

About Maëlle

My name is Maëlle Guennec. I come from a lovely place in Brittany, France. In 2020, I decided to move to England to study at the renowned European School of Osteopathy (ESO) in Kent. My love for the human body and its physiology led me to discover the wonders of this beautiful profession.

I have been treating patients for over two years now and have developed a particular clinical interest in women's and pelvic health, with a special focus on supporting people living with endometriosis. I was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2023, and I feel very strongly about empowering women living with this chronic and sometimes disabling condition. I'm passionate about opening conversations about pelvic floor dysfunction, constipation, urinary incontinence, endometriosis and persistent pelvic pain. Additionally, I hold a Diploma in Dry Needling and Western Medical Acupuncture, which enhances my holistic approach to the human body.

I enjoy using a wide variety of osteopathic techniques, including spinal manipulation, joint mobilisation and soft tissue massage, as well as cranial and visceral approaches. Every treatment is tailored to the individual, their goals and what feels right for them.

My journey into osteopathy began with a personal experience of a back injury caused by years of intense swimming and dance training. This experience, combined with the osteopathic philosophy of "finding the health, not the disease", continues to shape my practice. While a precise diagnosis is important for setting realistic expectations, I believe in empowering patients through education, movement and practical exercises to support their recovery. A condition does not define a person - it is the individual behind the condition that motivates me every day.

Approach to Care

I believe in a transparent and collaborative approach to treatment. I always ensure I gain consent, explain my findings clearly and make sure patients understand their options before we begin treatment.

I enjoy using a wide variety of osteopathic techniques, including spinal manipulation, joint mobilisation, soft tissue massage, cranial and visceral approaches. Recovery is a partnership. My role is to help reduce pain, improve movement and support your nervous system while giving you practical tools to continue your progress between appointments. Depending on your goals, this may include stretches, strengthening exercises, nervous system regulation techniques or a gradual return to running through a Couch to 5K programme.

What matters most to me is that patients feel safe, listened to and involved in every step of their care. I believe that education is just as important as hands-on treatment, and I want every patient to leave feeling more confident in understanding their body.
